The City Book | Book Launch + Art Exhibition
THE CITY BOOK - HONG KONG
Book Publication - Limited edition: 1500 copies
The CONCEPT
A city has no meaning until it’s filled with stories like the fears, dreams, and experiences of people, and the interaction between these two subjects creates its own dialogue.
There is always more than one story attached to a place, to a street, or to a corner. I have always believed that if a place inspires an individual to be an artist and to create a certain artwork, this artwork reveals a perspective unique to the artist.
The city book is here to provide you with all the spots in the city – from corners to streets – that have inspired these city-based artists to create their work. Each artist has provided his or her own personal story through quotes, texts, and anecdotes, interpreting themes from heritage to language and identity.
The locations and stories in this book are also laid out on an illustrated map to provide travellers with a more personal way to see a city.
We have started with Hong Kong, a city that’s close to our heart but so unfamiliar at the same time. It was our urge to explore the unknown depths of Hong Kong that actually helped spark the city book concept. We plan for the city book to grow its roots in other cities like Paris, London, Singapore, and more.
Hong Kong edition artists: Au Yeung Nai Chim, Enoch Cheung, Evan Wu, Tsang Kin-Wah, Ho Sin Tung, Lau Ching Ping, Romaine Jacquet-Lagreve, Jin Meyerson, Charles Munka, Lok Ming Fung
