About Chau Kirsty Hoi Yee
Kirsty Hoi-Yee Chau, an artist specializing in ink-on-paper portraiture, is a PhD student at the University of Reading. She uses psychoanalytic theories to research viewing experience, identification and subjectivity of multi-panel portraiture. She received an MA in Drawing (distinction) from Wimbledon College of Art and a BA in Fine Art (distinction) from RMIT University in Australia. She also received psychology training in Hong Kong.
Having started her career in art in 2005, Kirsty mainly focuses on unconventional psychological investigations of the human minds. Her academic training leads her to question the boundaries between sanity and insanity, logicality and illogicality, as well as the beauty and the ugly. Her works often display sumptuous and colorful images of human faces. Her representative works include Passive aggression (2005), Good wife (2009) and We just want to hold our heads upright diptych (2012).
She has given several solo and group exhibitions in the UK and Hong Kong. In 2010, she was selected to participate in the documentary ‘Young Hong Kong Artist Dialogue Project’. Her works have received media attention.
